diamentowy grant dla Roberta Obryka |
| Z naszego Wydziału diamentowy grant odebrał Robert Obryk student informatyki analitycznej. Minister nauki i szkolnictwa wyższego Barbara Kudrycka wraz z rektorem Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego i przewodniczącą Konferencji Rektorów Akademickich Szkół Polskich Katarzyną Chałasińską-Macukow wręczyły stu wybitnym studentom „Diamentowe Granty” na prowadzenie własnych badań naukowych. Uroczystość ogłoszenia listy nazwisk laureatów odbyła się w Kancelarii Premiera i połączona była z przyznaniem naukowcom nagród Prezesa Rady Ministrów za rozprawy doktorskie i habilitacyjne oraz działalność naukową, naukowo-techniczną i artystyczną. | |

| Jagiellonian students placed very high in ACM Central European Regional Contest, November 11-13, 2011, Prague, Czech Republic.
The team Robert Obryk, Adam Polak, Maciej Wawro advanced to ACM ICPC World Finals, which will take place in May 2012 in Warsaw. This will be our 6th start in ACM ICPC World Finals |

PAWEŁ WASZKIEWICZ NIE ŻYJE |
| Wczoraj w wypadku drogowym zginął nasz kolega Paweł Waszkiewicz. Odszedł od nas wspaniały ciepły człowiek, błyskotliwy matematyk, charyzmatyczny wykładowca i naukowy przewodnik młodzieży. Jego ostatnie badania otwierały nowe horyzonty w teorii dziedzin.
Paweł Waszkiewicz doktoryzował się na Uniwersytecie w Birmingham a całą swoją pracę zawodową związał z Katedrą Podstaw Informatyki na Wydziale Matematyki i Informatyki Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. Miał 38 lat. Dr Paweł Waszkiewicz zginął w środę 3 sierpnia wieczorem pod kołami pędzącego samochodu przy ul. Bobrzyńskiego w Krakowie.
Uroczystości pogrzebowe odbędą w nowej kaplicy na cmentarzu Batowickim we wtorek 9 sierpnia o godzinie 13.
Pozostawił żonę i dwoje dzieci. |

Bronze medal to TCS students at World Finals of ACM ICPC |
| In the 2011 World Finals of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest held in Orlando, FL, USA the team of TCS@Jagiellonian students won bronze medal. This year 24,915 contestants competed in 8,305 teams from 2,070 universities from 88 countries on six continents.
Our team Robert Obryk, Contestant Adam Polak, Contestant Maciej Wawro, Contestant prof. Pawel Idziak, coach dr Lech Duraj, co-coach Bartosz Walczak, co-coach was placed among top best programmers in the World. |

Ocena wyróżniająca PKA dla kierunku informatyka na naszym Wydziale |
| Wydział uzyskał ocenę wyróżniającą jakości kształcenia na kierunku „informatyka” prowadzonym na poziomie studiów pierwszego i drugiego stopnia oraz jednolitych studiów magisterskich na Wydziale Matematyki i Informatyki Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego w Krakowie.
W uchwale PKA czytamy: Kierunek ten wyróżnia się wysokim poziomem prowadzonej działalności dydaktycznej, znakomitymi efektami kształcenia, wdrożonym kompleksowym systemem zapewnienia jakości kształcenia, znakomitą bazą materialną, a także wysokim poziomem prowadzonej działalności naukowej, zakresem i charakterem współpracy międzynarodowej oraz kadrą wybitnych uczonych, rozpoznawalnych w skali międzynarodowej. Organizacja studiów zapewnia studentom i doktorantom właściwy rozwój ich aktywności naukowo-badawczej. |

M.Wróbel & A.Łącki won PostgreSQL Android Application Contest |
| Our students Marek Wróbel and Albert Łącki won PostgreSQL Android Application Contest with their application "Barcode Inventory".
The contest was to create an open source PostgreSQL application for the Android OS. The prize was a brand-new Nexus One phone donated by Google. The project was realized during TCS course Mobile Programming run by Grzegorz Gutowski and Michał Zmarz. |

TCS goes mobile |
| In cooperation with Google TCS starts a new project APP PHONES. During a course of MOBILE PROGRAMMING our students will make their own application for mobile phones. Main focus is on applications in Android.
Google supports the project with Nexus One phones (to be used by our students during the course). Also experts from Google Krakow office will be invited to meet the students. |
