Coarse graph theory is a newly emerging field that attracted a lot of attention in the last few years. The general idea is to look at graphs from “far away”, ignoring their local structure and focusing on the global one. The main ideas come from so-called coarse geometry, whose study was initiated by Gromov more than 30 years ago. One of the goals of coarse graph theory is understanding which classical theorems can be translated into the coarse world and which cannot. I will illustrate this with several Erdős–Pósa type statements.
